Staggeringly Beautiful (Slight return) (16 August 2008)
I have to say that I dislike the Beach Boys surfer-era ethos intensely, as do a lot of people I know, and I have had a devil of a job getting them to listen to this cd with their prejudices left at home. I bought the cd set on the basis of all the rave reviews in the media etc, thinking I'll give it a go and could always sell it on ebay if it was rubbish. How wrong I was!!! Do not let such prior judgements put you off this superb album!! Dennis had a very similar ear for piano-based melodies as fellow CA resident Randy Newman but the music is far more heartfelt. Enough words - just buy it - you wont regret it!! Trust me...I'm a civil servant...

Cry, Jump and Smile with the best reissue of this year!!! (06 July 2008)
I have to say I never thought Dennis could do a record like this one... yes I know I'm an idiot. But seriously, I am overblown by the feeling of these songs (Farewell my Friend, Time, End of Show), every song has the right element of surrounding sounds but never disturbing the greatness of the melodies and the amazing piano tracks.
Unbelievably he included funky songs (pacific ocean blue) in this album and they all fit together like a miracle or whatever you want to call it.
He blends the classic beach boys sound on a subtle way, with the Beatles creating an atmosphere making it very personal to listen to.

The tracks have aged marvelously, man I'm so psyched about this album! How stupid I was not to have it years ago!! This is truly one of the best albums I have heard from a solo Beach Boy and yes, I am a huge Brian fan!

From nostalgic sad & dark songs, happy love songs, to funky tunes this album has everything.
Don't be another stupid and buy this album for a personal experience with melody.

Let the music play!
PS: The unreleased material is also unbelievable and I'm only reviewing disc1!!
PS2: The packaging is UNBELIEVABLE !!! Don't dare to buy another version of the record.

  Yes it is ... (06 July 2008)
as good as you hoped it would be and beautifully packaged too.
I also really like Bambu, the unreleased, supposedly unfinished, album and the bonus tracks as well.

Hidden Gem Then Still Wows Now (04 July 2008)
A truly great hidden gem. Packed full of feeling and funk. Being an ardent BB fan I bought the original vinyl as an early 20-something and was blown away all those years ago. It seems I've been waiting forever (no pun intended) for it to be re-released and finally it has arrived all 'cleaned up' complete with his second unreleased album 'Bambu' and bonus tracks too. I am in heaven! Seriously, as our American cousins would all too often remark this IS a genuinely 'seminal'/'awesome' work beautifully re-packaged and presented that even a cynical 'oldie but moldy' like me reared on gatefolds and free posters et al was suitably impressed, and all at a bargain price. Ignore the 1*, (as they say you always get one!)at the very least it is 4*, just buy, listen and enjoy then make your own mind up.

I will never tire of it.......................... (03 July 2008)
Pacific Ocean Blue is without doubt the most honest, powerful and most staggeringly beautiful album I have ever had the pleasure to hear. I challege anyone not to be moved to tears by Dennys voice on "thoughts of you" or indeed filled with hope and joy in the middle eight section of "The River". He was every bit the composer Brian is and could easily hold his own next to the angelic voice of his late brother Carl.

If Denny had still been alive today I'm sure he would have been moved himself to see that the tunes and words he gave life to all those years ago are finally getting the recognition they deserve.

Denny Forever............................................
