Shows how they lost the Midas touch. (05 August 2010)
First let me say that I bought this for 4 pounds from Tesco and that is about all it is worth. Yes the Hollies had the Midas touch in the 60s and 70s as the tracks on this CD prove, and tracks on previous Hollies Best ofs have also proven. Great great singles, great harmonies and a great guitar sound. but the Hollies were Nash, Clarke and Hicks as later tracks contained on this cd prove as it moves, in a strange random order to later mediocre tracks that have no right to be on a "best of" I did hope that we had heard the last of The Baby, a total embarrassment of a song but here we have to suffer a live version. and Then, Now and Always, much vaunted in the pittiful sleeve notes is poor stuff.
As for the "sleeve notes" themselves they are so disappointing. No release dates, no chart positions,no line up information and no album information. A few lines from Bobby Elliot and a few photos.
They were a great band as this proves but it also proves that they became a rather average band and then a tribute band.

The Hollies - well worth listening to. (22 April 2010)
This CD is well worth listening to. There are songs on it that I've never heard them sing before but they are all good songs. Also some familiar ones that you don't associate with the Hollies ie Heartbeat.

Still going stong after nearly fifty years (03 April 2010)
I feel the Hollies are always underated, they made and still make wonderfull recordings and still touring.I was lucky to catch them in Nottingham a few weeks ago and admit was not sure how they would be as only Tony and Bobby are left from the original lineup, well they were BRILLIANT,I have not enjoyed a concert of this quality for a while.Once you get over the fact that the songs sound different because Allan Clarkes very distinctive voice is missing you soon forget and get carried away with these great songs, they sang all the hits and no medleys, all the hits in full, they were on stage for over two hours.it was a magical evening.I did not realize what a brilliant guiarist Tony Hicks is and for a guy of 65 he looks still youthfull.I purchased thier latest CD "THEN NOW ALWAYS"including all new material(and is excellent)and the title track is on this compilation. This set brings The Hollies right up to date with some of thier newer recordings and they are sounding as good today as they did back in the early sixties.
