| | Customer Reviews: Absolute classic (13 November 2008)The fact that it is over20 years old is testament to the fact this is still selling strong. This is one of my favourite albums of all time, and permenantly stays in the car for periodic stress relief and pleasure time. The album encompasses a variety of music styles and includes the legendary 'You can call me Al'. This has to be one of the all time great tracks. Not only that, this album was responsible for the popularity of Lady Blacksmith Mambazo due to their involvement in the album and tracks such as 'Homeless'. For me this is a must have album, for the simple fact it has tap along tracks along with tracks that calm your soul. Incredible- but buy the original version. (03 April 2008)This is one of my very favourite albums- I am usually a heavy metal fan but across any genre it is difficult to ignore genius and that is something that Paul Simon definately displays on Graceland. However- having heard the original and the remaster, track down the original cd. It's much better and I just wish record labels would stop pissing about with great albums to make some more money. Will Good Music, Bad Production (04 March 2008)I totally agree with Glen Richards. I have the original vinyl and CD so I bought this version as a re-mastered paper sleeve Japanese Mini LP(vinyl replica) thinking it would be an upgrade. The hiss level is overpowering on a good hi-fi system. You might as well play it as an MP3 recording. Very disappointing. Do yourself a favour, however, and try the "MINI LP/Vinyl Replica" remastered versions of "One Trick Pony", "Rhymin Simon", "Paul Simon", or "Still Crazy After All These Years". This is how it should be done. It sounds good. (27 January 2008)If you have a better than the average Hi Fi system then you will not be disappointed with the sound quality of this CD. A previous reviewer has got it wrong, complaining about it. Every detail is there with a deep, spacious sound and good clear vocals. Four stars are given because not all the songs are good even though there are some 'classics' in there. Graceland (14 December 2007)I first heard this when i was around 10 years old and i still listen to it at the age of 30. an absolutely essential record no matter what your musical taste(i normally listen to metal!)A lot of people would class his work with Art Garfunkle as his classic work, but Graceland is such an appealing record that it goes beyond what most records can achieve. Im sure most people own this album already but if you dont its truly a must have all time great. Also, it contains some of his most poetic and memprable lyrics. Its a chame i cant give this 10 stars!! |
